Use Your Own AI Key
Add your own Anthropic API key so listing rewrites run at your cost instead of spending Rufusly listing credits.
Use Your Own AI Key
If you rewrite more listings than your plan's monthly credits allow, you can add your own Anthropic API key. Listing rewrites then run on your Anthropic account instead of spending Rufusly listing credits.
This feature is in early access. If you do not see it in your account yet, contact support to have it enabled.
Adding your key
- Open Settings
- Go to the MCP tab
- Find Use your own Anthropic API key
- Paste your key and click Save
Keys must be an Anthropic API key, which begins with sk-ant-. Anything else is rejected before it is stored. Once saved, the key is never shown again: the card only displays the last four characters so you can tell which key is in place.
What changes once a key is saved
| Feature | With your own key |
|---|---|
| Full listing rewrite | Runs on your key, no Rufusly listing credit spent |
| Bulk Title Updater | Runs on your key, no listing credit per row |
| Single section rewrite | Still spends a Rufusly listing credit |
| Image generation | Unaffected, still spends image credits |
Only full listing rewrites and bulk title runs move onto your key. Image generation does not use Anthropic at all, so your image credits work exactly as before.
There is an hourly fair-use limit on rewrites run through your own key, to keep a runaway bulk job from hammering your Anthropic account. If you hit it, wait and start the run again.
Billing
Usage on your key is billed by Anthropic directly to you, at Anthropic's standard rates. Rufusly does not mark up or resell that usage, and it does not appear on your Rufusly invoice.
Your Rufusly subscription is unchanged. You still pay for your plan, and your image credits, brand profiles and every other feature stay exactly as they are.
How your key is handled
- Stored encrypted at rest
- Decrypted server-side only, at the moment a rewrite is made
- Never returned to the browser and never shown again after you save it
- Used only for your own account's rewrites
If anything goes wrong reading your key, the rewrite quietly falls back to Rufusly's shared model and your normal credit. A key problem will never leave you unable to generate.
Removing your key
Open the same card in Settings, then MCP, and click Remove. The key is deleted from Rufusly and rewrites go straight back to using your plan's listing credits on the next run. You can remove a key at any time, including after the feature has been switched off for your account, so your credential is never stuck with us.
Removing the key from Rufusly does not revoke it at Anthropic. If you want it dead everywhere, revoke it in your Anthropic console as well.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my own Anthropic API key with Rufusly?
Yes. Add your Anthropic API key in Rufusly Settings under the MCP tab, and full listing rewrites and Bulk Title Updater runs will use your key instead of your Rufusly listing credits. The feature is in early access, so contact support if you do not see the card yet.
What does using my own API key cost?
Anthropic bills your key usage directly to you at their standard rates. It does not appear on your Rufusly invoice, and Rufusly does not add a margin. Your Rufusly subscription price is unchanged.
Does my own API key cover image generation too?
No. Rufusly image generation does not run on Anthropic, so your image credits are spent as normal whether or not you have added a key. Single section rewrites also still spend a Rufusly listing credit. Only full listing rewrites and Bulk Title Updater runs move onto your key.
How is my Anthropic API key stored?
Your key is encrypted at rest and decrypted server-side only, at the moment a rewrite is made. It is never returned to your browser and is never shown again after you save it, only the last four characters are displayed.
How do I remove my Anthropic API key from Rufusly?
Open Settings, go to the MCP tab, find the Anthropic key card and click Remove. The key is deleted and rewrites return to using your plan credits on the next run. Removing it from Rufusly does not revoke it at Anthropic, so revoke it in your Anthropic console too if you want it disabled everywhere.
